Google Insights for Search : Comparing how people search

Google Insights for Search is a new tool from Google to analyze and determine the search pattern, seasonality, creating brand associations or advertising messages.

Google Insights for Search : Comparing how people search

Examples

  • Choosing advertising messages : Insights can help you determine which messages resonate best. For example, an automobile manufacturer may be unsure of whether it should highlight fuel efficiency, safety, or engine performance to market a new car model.
Google Insights for Search : Comparing how people search
When the three features are entered into Insights, we can see that there’s a considerable amount of interest in car safety. With this information, the manufacturer may want to consider incorporating car safety into its marketing strategy.
  • Examining seasonality : Insights can be used to determine seasonality. For example, a ski resort may want to find out when people search for ski-related terms most often.
  • Examining seasonality : Insights can be used to determine seasonality. For example, a ski resort may want to find out when people search for ski-related terms most often.
  • Creating brand associations : Insights can be a helpful tool in creating brand associations. Take, for example, an advertising agency that needs to build a compelling advertising campaign for its client, a computer hardware company. The agency needs to know what competing brands are doing: how should they position their client’s product against them?
  • Entering new markets : Insights can be useful in determining a new market. A wine distributor may be looking to expand into new markets. By entering in wine + vino, and comparing the data across multiple countries, such as Argentina, Mexico, Spain, and Venezuela, the distributor can get a sense of where interest is more prevalent.

ididwork : A twitter like service for the employees.

ididwork is a web-based service lets employees keep record of work they have completed. Employees can then submit a weekly or monthly report to their manager in the form of a chart, graph, or simple summary, and receive feedback through the system. It is designed to be useful solely from the employee’s perspective, letting them track their own progress and analyze trends over time. The service does not have to serve the enterprise, but rather can spread amongst individual users.

The idea seems simple but it tackles a big problem: it is difficult to judge productivity in big companies. In employee reviews managers often have very little idea of what an employee has done, which leads them to make judgments based on behavior that seems productive; like staying late everyday, or sending out company wide emails at three in morning. It also gives employees an idea of what their associates are working on with a news feed, eliminating the need for status meetings.

Navigaya : News, Search, Video, Music everything at one place!

Navigaya is definitively an interesting creation. There no single word to define the site, as it has almost everything we look everyday over the internet, News, Search, Video, Music, Maps, Finance, Weather, Magazines, Calender, Pictures, TV, Games, Design (that’s the categories I found in the footer nav).

One of most interesting part of it is that, there’s a music video (from Youtube, Google video etc.) playing in the background always (which you can pause or change anytime.)

Based on Adobe Flash, the site acts as a navigator for you to different sections you might be interested in. There is a timeline navigation in the footer which basically is a collection of external links of best known websites in that category, more like a ready-made bookmark list. The external links

Starting at the “Home”, You are welcomed with the blocks of different news sections, updated every few seconds, which further expands by clicking on the category, giving you list of news in the category from popular news websites.

The Search feature, which is available anytime by taking your cursor in the middle of the window, searches few popular sites like Google, Yahoo, Msn, Altavista, (and for some reason) cuil and few others in different sub windows. Which is pretty useful if you like comparing the results.

Verdict : If you don’t mind the little browser/system performance taken by flash, Navigaya makes a great start up page.

Feedburner hack: how to get 2500 subscribers overnight

thenextweb.org has posted an interesting flaw in Feedburner. Joop Dorresteijn found an easy way to hack Feedburner (Not the obvious hack that simply steals a chicklet from a popular site).
The hack is pretty simple and just takes is an OPML file, a Netvibes account and overnight you have any number of subscribers you want. The cache is, Feedburner thinks each Netvibes OPML file feed entry is a individual subscriber, so you can create as many feeds as you want in the OPML file and import it to netvibes and you’re done ;) .

Cuil search engine : A Google Search alternative ?

Well, everyone is talking about the new search engine, Cuil and it shows. The new search engine pronounced ‘cool’ and comes from an old Irish word meaning ‘knowledge’. The site has indexed around 120 billion web pages, which it claims is three times more than any other search engine, and results are organised by ideas rather than just rankings. It also promises complete user privacy. Cuil will attempt to analyse the context of each page and the concepts behind each query, thereby grouping similar results together and sorting them by category.

The Internet has grown exponentially in the last fifteen years but search engines have not kept up—until now. Cuil searches more pages on the Web than anyone else—three times as many as Google and ten times as many as Microsoft.

but bbc says ..

By declaring its aim of taking on Google, Cuil joins a long list of others that have tried and largely failed to dent the search giant’s market share. Other contenders include Teoma, Vivisimo, Snap, Mahalo and Powerset.

Weird fact is, it does not even find one result on a usual search term.
