mnemomap : A new way of searching

mnemomap : A new way of searchingmnemomap is a new way to search the internet. It combines technologies of social networking, search engines and other data sources to help you formulate search queries and find really relevant information. mnemomap uses flash and has a clean and simple interface which searches yahoo, flickr and youtube for the query. I wonder why they left google ? and in the search results of yahoo all URL’s are Yahoo! redirects, not a prob but would be nicer if they made it clean URL’s.

Today’s search engines have some common flaws: Though easy to use, they hardly deliver any concept to assist the user in finding relevant information. They are somewhat straight-forward: give a word, get a list.

mnemomap can do better: in an interactive way we help the user to refine search queries by providing alternative or additional search parameters on-the-fly. By providing tags, translations and many other data sources to find words we help formulating a search query that delivers better results. And finally: we show live search results. You won’t have to wonder whether you’re using the right words in queries. The live feedback enables you to see it realtime! At the moment mnemomap is still running alpha

AlltheWeb Live Search now in Firefox 2.0

AlltheWeb Live search beta can now be accessed from the upcoming Firefox versions. Yahoo! Search blog reports, addition of Live AlltheWeb search that was introduced in May 2006 into Firefox 2.0 beta 1. When using Yahoo Search in the top-right search box on Firefox 2.0, a list of suggested completions for what has been typed will appear below the search box.

As you type, Live Search gives you a drop-down list of suggestions to complete your query. And it’s lightning-fast. It’s like having a built-in mind reader in an environment where time is precious.
- Which is basically what ajax does in Google Suggest, Wordpress live search etc.

Tags Search Engines : TagFetch, KeoTag, Gada.Be and more

Tag Search engines Tag Search engines are getting popular with blogging. Almost every Web 2.0 website, Blog or search engine has to have tags with it. Its another important for maintaining relavant blog search results and getting traffic for bloggers ;).

  • Yahoo! My Web 2.0 Search : Ultimate Tag Search, but provides only results from content submitted to it. Unlike
  • KeoTag : Clean Layout and easy searching. It searchs tags from a wide range of blogging websites from well known technorati to newly lauched web 2.0 websites. Offers RSS feed for each search made. Better that Gada.be
  • Gada.be : Impressive but only thing I don’t like about it is, it adds nofollow tags into the results.Gada takes a query and runs it against sites like Google News, Technorati, Flickr, IceRocket, Amazon, Wikipedia, 43Things, etc.
  • TagFetch : Basically TagFetch conducts a search on other blogging related websites. While searching there are options for News, Blog, Bookmarks and Media. It searches recent posts with media on Flickr and Youtube. de.licio.us for Bookmarks. Technorati and Feedster fetch from Blog while reddit, newsvine and tailrank for News. Pretty neat for beta stage. What I like most about it is simple and clean results unlike websites like Snap which started great but now the RSS feeds yeilds spam most of the time.
  • WinkWink Tag Search Enigne : Wink is another new tag based search engine that lets you find the results from different social bookmarking sites. Wink crawls sites like del.icio.us, Digg, Furl, Slashdot and Yahoo MyWeb, indexes the results, and figures out which pages are most relevant through their TagRank algorithms.
  • Guten Tags : A tag search engine, perhaps a Tag cloud. A search reveals few options like what does the keyword mean, posts related to that keyword, what people bookmark, record, film about that keyword and much more.
  • Rmail Tag Search : Yet another Tag search engine.

Do comment of any nice tag Search Engines I have missed.

Snap : A Marvelous New AJAX Search Engine

Snap is something which google might become in near future, as everything is getting AJAX’ed nowadays ;). As the title suggests, It’s indeed a marvelous way of searching. With some of the top programmers behind the project, there is no wonder it does so well. Most of the menu and search features are AJAX enabled and is interesting to use and has shortcut keys feature. Clicking on a search result displays an preview of the website (with three level visual zoom) without leaving the search results and further clicking leads to the website in the same Snap iFrame.
Snap another great feature is Snap widgets

  • Snap Coupon Widget : Snap automatically coupons / special offers relavant to the search result.
  • Snap Navigation/Company Widget : Snap’s first result on a company or navigation search will be a 360° view.
  • Snap Map Widget : Typing the Zip code of a city returns a map.
  • Snap Weather Widget : Typing the Zip code of a city with keyword “weather” gets you the weather report.

Snap allows direct interactivity with the preview site, without having to leave your results behind. You can plug in your dates and destinations for travel, you can pick the car make and model or you can copy those lyrics…all while still having access to your results list. In addition, for those of you power users who like this feature, but want it on all the time, we offer an Active-X preview control, which makes this direct interactivity the default mode.

Getting you to your end destination as fast as possible is our mission. We call this Speed to Satisfaction and it has very little to do with how quickly a page downloads and everything to do with how quickly one can make sense of the data once it’s presented.

Yotophoto : Search Free Photos !

Yotophoto is the first internet search engine for finding free-to-use photographs and images.
Now indexing over 150 000 Creative Commons, Public Domain, GNU FDL, and various other ‘copyleft’ images.

Its been around a year since Yotophoto was launched but still it needs to be there on my blog ;) . Yotophoto searches many top websites for images, like sxc.hu, Wikipedia, flickr etc. Great for photoshop freaks. Now Yotophoto gives the copyright information about the image in search results, so its great for Developers too.

Wikipedia Search websites : Bashr, WikiWax (AJAX)

There are lots of sites coming up lately using popular company searches like google, wikipedia, technorati with some extra spice in it, be it integration of other service or just some fancy AJAX. I found these two websites which basically uses wikipedia. Well the service or say the search results are nothing but same as the usual wiki searches ;) .

BashR : Now as the website hompage states its “A web 2.0 project that bashes together Wikipedia, flickr and Delicious on millions of topics”. One positive feature maybe, it shows flickr photos and del.icio.us links tagged with the searched keyword.

WikiWax : WikiWax is something that searches wikipedia results in realtime with AJAX. Pretty sweet if you are newbie playing around with AJAX appz.
