EditGrid is the new kid in the Online Spreadsheet Comunity. Not even months after Google Spreadsheets was released, EditGrid is now released by Team and Concepts. iRows and WikiCalc where two popular applications in the same category which works with great user interface and features. Even though EditGrid does not have the user communication feature like Google does but it sure states itself better than Google, WikiCalc and even legendry Microsoft Excel, which I think is be true. Perhaps its not a kid after all ;) . Apart from the usual uses of Online Spreadsheets, EditGrid allows users to post spreadsheets to blogs and websites. It allows exporting to OpenOffice.org Calc format (.sxc). And many more features.

Kris Hadlock has written a well tutorial, How To Create an RSS Aggregator with PHP and AJAX on informit.com. Imagine using a simple HTML file to send a request to a server-side script, receive a custom XML file based on that request, and then display it to the user without ever refreshing the browser! Kris Hadlock explains how to use a combination of PHP and AJAX to create real-time data transfers in any application without a browser refresh.

AlltheWeb Live search beta can now be accessed from the upcoming Firefox versions. Yahoo! Search blog reports, addition of Live AlltheWeb search that was introduced in May 2006 into Firefox 2.0 beta 1. When using Yahoo Search in the top-right search box on Firefox 2.0, a list of suggested completions for what has been typed will appear below the search box.

As you type, Live Search gives you a drop-down list of suggestions to complete your query. And it’s lightning-fast. It’s like having a built-in mind reader in an environment where time is precious.
- Which is basically what ajax does in Google Suggest, Wordpress live search etc.

Adobe Labs (http://labs.adobe.com/) has released a preview of JamJar, which is a demonstration of a rich internet application built on Flex 2. It provides a graphical, private, persistent, and customizable canvas for small groups to easily exchange digital content in order to:

• Plan events
• Exchange ideas
• Manage projects
• Centralize information
• Share files and images

With each JamJar space you can interact with up to 20 participants. Additionally, each registered user can decide to make one space a ‘public’ space which allows for open access to the space and each JamJar space can hold up to 20 MB of content. When a space has been designated as ‘public’, it will have a space URL that can be posted to provide access to many individuals without inviting each and every person to that space. The checkbox for switching a space to a public space is in Connections Pod > Space Info.

JamJar does a great work combining many features and allowing user interactions. It would take few dedicated hours to check up all its features but it sure looks promising. :) But hey, this is the first time I am seeing Google Ads on a adobe page.

Empressr is a Ajax/Flash-based web application that lets you create, share and store presentations online. It goes beyond current presentation applications by enabling you to incorporate rich media features, like streaming video and animation, to create and share the most dynamic presentations possible. The Flash UI of Empressr is quite impressive and looks good on eye.

Though it is not the first one as it claims, is it ? Online presenations like Thumbstacks, Zoho Show, iRows and Google Spreadsheet are some other applications which does almost the same work. (more…)

CityCita is a service opening for public that lets you organize groups and meetings for free and within an open classification system. Its a free service that help you to join or create local groups that can get together in a convenient venue. We offer a convenient way to connect with others who share the same interests and ideas as you and live locally. There are thousands of groups that you can join in an easy-to-use, privacy-protected, and spam-protected environment. You can use the CityCita service at our web site or through any email program.
The service is in Beta and is free for use. As techcrunch reviews CityCita emphasizes that their groups can be classified by any term or tag determined by organizers, instead of being limited to a finite number of categories determined by the service. That’s nice, but not a big deal. Tags may be the new hotness, but for mass adoption of an events system I imagine many people want a clear category tree. CityCita does have categories as well as tags.

Kool IM (http://www.koolim.com/). is an all new web based instant messaging service. Though in Alpha stage it supports 6 instant messaging services all together - AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, Google Talk, ICQ and apart from all that jabber. AJAX is used in the application very well and Kool IM hardly have any known problem. It has a registration option which enable to take advantage of saving and managing user’s network accounts and more. Meebo and e-messenger were the two most popular web based IM services which are ruling from last few months.
Meebo and e-messenger in recent months have developed a new problem of banishment in some schools and colleges by authorities in order stop children from using Instant messaging. Well, Kool IM can be a great solution for them ;) . A support forum and a blog is also available. As per what I checked, Kool IM is supported on Internet Explorer 6, Firefox 1.5.0.4 and Opera 9.0 .

What do use for intant messaging ? Y! mess., MSN, Gtalk ? or do you use the third party softwares like trillian, Gimp ? imeem is not some software that usually comes out every other day and flops, it is indeed a wonderful combination of services.

Instant Messaging
Use any and all of your IM services from one application . imeem can take up any number of Gtalk, Yahoo! messenger, MSN messenger and AIM Id’s on its IM software, much like trillian but trillian only supports gtalk on jabber client which is only supported in their pro version. The UI is pretty neat and looks good on eyes. Instant messagng is the best feature of the imeem.
