Geotracking | Mapping Services list
Customizable mapping applications have spread a lot after Google and Yahoo! launched their open-API maps. A small list of web 2.0 websites which are known to the world for tracking the world ;) .
- {feedmap.net} : Using FeedMap you can geo-code your blog, browse already geo-coded blogs and search for blogs. Once geo-coded, you can get your own BlogMap location using a simple url that allows you to network with your local bloggers and much more. BlogMap provides a tiny-badge-sized map that shows your blog’s location using AJAX and via Microsoft Map.
- Flickrmap : Flickrmap.com is a web service that allows you to put a flash based world map on your own website or blog. Flickrmap will then automatically search your photos at Flickr for location information and plot the photos on your own Flickrmap, on your own website.Flickrmap also supports photos that have been geotagged or photos that have location data encoded in their EXIF properties. It’s as simple as tagging your photos with a city and country name!
- Map Builder : MapBuilder.net is an Web2.0 service or rapid mashup development tool to build custom Google and Yahoo maps without any knowledge of the Google/Yahoo Maps API and JavaScript. MapBuilder provides a decent visual interface for the map building process with geocoding and import features. Also MapBuilder lets users tag locations on their maps, and then publish the map either on MapBuilder.net or their own website. a great tool for webmasters, webdevelopers, people who likes mapping at all.
- GeoURL 2.0 : GeoURL is a location-to-URL reverse directory. This will allow you to find URLs by their proximity to a given location. Find your neighbor’s blog, perhaps, or the web page of the restaurants near you. GeoURL currently lists around 226,960 sites.
- gVisit.com : Track visitors to your website using Google Maps. Very easy to register your website and track visitors.
- Wayfaring : Wayfaring allows you to create personal maps with and share them with your friends. Explore maps created by others and connect and collaborate over a vast social network. Mapmaking has never been so easy!
Frappr.com : Put your group on the map with Frappr. Create a map to pinpoint your location and the locations of all your friends and group members, then invite others from around the world to join.- plazes.beta : Plazes puts physical presence to the web. Plazes automatically detects your location and connects you to things nearby. See people in your area, discover other Plazes nearby and keep an eye on the whereabouts of your friends.
- Mappr! : Mappr is an interactive environment for exploring place, based on the photos people take. Mappr takes advantage of the cornucopia of descriptive information provided by Flickr’s users to organize their photos. Flickr’s admirable policy of openness with its data provides a way to anticipate and envision a future where cheaply-available GPS technology generates this placement as a matter of course.
- My Geo Tag : A totally AJAXed Interface. Find a city, wikipedia article or any other geotag > Add Geotag
containing a website link, text note or picture > Show Example - MapMix : In a nutshell, Map Mix takes people that are online and looking for someone to talk to, and gives them a visual search tool. You can talk to people down the street from you, or find someone across the country to find out what is going on out there.
- Placeopedia : Placeopedia is a simple site where you can connect Wikipedia articles with places and then make use of their database either to browse or syndicate the whole lot. People can connect places they know with their corresponding Wikipedia article and then the syndicated data can be used as a general geographic lookup table for Wikipedia.
