Ajax & Yahoo!16 May 2006

New AJAX’d Yahoo! Homepage

Yahoo ! is all set to get AJAX’d . Soon after adding ajax to Alltheweb, Yahoo! launched its homepage preview (Beta) .

There are a lot of nice dhtml features on the new site, but instead of covering them again, one of the interesting ideas was the top widget that walks you through “what is new”.

As soon as you get into the helper widgets, your screen is taken over and overlayed with a nice walk through. This could be a nice pattern in itself as we could add really interactive help into our ajax applications that are truly builtin and showing you in the REAL application (not just showing screen shots).

Adobe releases Spry AJAX Framework

After Flex framework adobe launches new AJAX framework, Spry

The first release of the Spry framework is a preview of the data capabilities that enable designers to incorporate XML data into their HTML documents using HTML, CSS, and a minimal amount of JavaScript, without the need for refreshing the entire page. The Spry framework is HTML-centric, and easy to implement for users with basic knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The framework was designed such that the markup is simple and the JavaScript is minimal. The Spry framework can be used by anyone who is authoring for the web in their tool of choice.

kajeet : Cell phones for kids , a revolution !

kajeet is, appropriately enough, an anagram of the first letters of the names of the company founders’ children. As per kajeet, Kids who use kajeet will enjoy a full range of features, while their parents will have access to services that enable them to stay connected with their kids on every imaginable level.

“kajeet” is, appropriately enough, an anagram of the first letters of the names of the company founders’ children. For all of us who work at kajeet, the name is a constant reminder that every day, in everything we do, we respect our customers as if they were our own kids. Plus, we just like the sound of it. “kajeet.”

Headed by CEO Daniel Neal, a former VP and GM at USinternetworking as well as a Wharton MBA, Kajeet is still operating in what I would describe as moderate stealth mode. The world now knows that they exist and knows where they are focusing their attention but how they intend to serve that market and what they told the VC’s to generate what may be the biggest A-round of financing this year is a bit of a mystery.

What we do know is that Kajeet is in serious ramp up mode and that means they’re on a hiring mission. In speaking with company representatives over the past few days they repeatedly emphasized that this was the chance to “get in on the ground floor of the building…of a very big building”.
