Mapable Technologies : Mapable Chat : Chat on Map !

Mapable is a platform that has many applications. As a service provider Mapable will be introducing various services and also has a plan to open up the platform to the developers so anyone can create their own Mapable services using mapable API and tapping into the existing userbase. The first service is Mapable Chat.

Our goal is to take take common social activities on the Internet and put them on a geographic map. This applies to chat, polling, surveys, dating, learning and many more. For example, Mapable Chat is a browser-based chat application where you can see where all the chat participants are.

The Homepage is classic Web 2.0 like, and the interesting thing about the chat I found is the use of Google Maps API in the chat area to show user’s location.

Dosize: Resizing digital photo images online & sending

Resize and send your digital photo images online in 3 easy steps!

DoSize is an Web 2.0 application for resizing and sending service.

We are a group of people who share a desire to make it easier for “common” people to share their personal digital photos. We discovered that many people, although Flickr exists, use e-mail to share quickly a couple of pictures with friends and family… but they just don’t know how to resize them to fit them in an email.

So, we started Dosize.com because we felt forced to.

This shouldn’t surprise you but, as part of Do Ideas family, we’re a company that’s trying to make life easier to many people around the globe. That’s what we: we make ideas work!

Though this is like one of those applications that are built into every email program or internet based emailer as standard, like flickr. ;)

[O’Reilly] Ajax Design Patterns Book

Ajax Design Patterns, a new O’Reilly book, based on Michael Mahemoff’s Ajax Patterns wiki is set to be released on June 1.

Book Description
Those of you familiar with Ajax (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) know how useful the technology is for creating interactive web applications with XML-based web services and JavaScript in the browser to process the web server response. Responsive web applications with client-like functionality are the new wave of the Internet. Though Ajax is new, the enabling technologies that allow JavaScript and similar languages to transfer and manipulate XML data from server to web browser have been around for a while. Ajax Design Patterns provides best practices for web developers by investigating how others have successfully dealt with conflicting design principles. You will find sections on foundational technology patterns, programming patterns, functionality and usability patterns, and diagnosis/testing of Ajax applications. Ajax is all about usability, so the patterns in this book focus on delivering usability in the face of constraints, such as user capabilities and expectations, bandwidth limits, the stateless nature of HTTP, and the complexity of Javascript. These patterns also are a concise way to represent the Human-Computer Interaction knowledge embodied in the many Ajax applications on the market.
