AJAXPress, a Wordpress alternative ?
AJAXPress as per its hompage is a web 2.0 blogging system written in Javascript with a PHP backend. Works on any webserver with PHP and MySQL installed. In order to properly view and use AJAXPress blogs, you must be using Internet Explorer 6.0 or FireFox 1.5 or greater.
Now I don’t see any Search Engine Optimization (SEO) done there, so if a bot comes to the blog with AJAXPress, it will only have access to the homepage, still its pretty clean code with nice interface. Corporates and not so SEO conscious may like it ;) .
AJAXPress aims to be a very minimal, but very usable, AJAX powered blogging system. AJAXPress is focused on ease of use, web standards, and speed. AJAXPress is not full of unnecessary features that just confuse the user. AJAXPress is light, fast, and simple. And best of all, it’s 100% free open source!

I don’t think it can compete so easily. Wordpress is much more wiser and userfriendly. and the ever growing databse of thousands of plugins and themes.

Without support for Safari, it’s dead. Mac users, though a minority of the population at large, are a large percentage of bloggers and people who build websites with tools like Wordpress. I’d say you also gotta get Opera on board to really make a meaningful offering, since Opera is so popular in Europe.

[...] I should say it does a lot more than other AJAX based scripts like AJAXpress and AJAX Portal . But still it needs a lot more to get into high level category of scripts like Joomla and Wordpress. Share and Enjoy:These icons link to social bookmarking sites where readers can share and discover new web pages. [...]

IMHO, it’s far from being 1.1, it looks incomplete and very much like a highschool project with nifty ajax anims (I’m starting to hate those, I frickin see them everywhere).
Good concept. Perhaps a lot more could be done with it, if it can, the demo does it no justice.
I’ll be keeping a sideward glance at it.
Thanks.
