AJAX banner rotation

Check this cool script “AJAX banner rotation” , Sort of Ajax version of phpadsnew but the simpler side, lol.
Have look at the demo you’ll know what I mean.

So here’s the case: rotate ads on a website, even when the page is not reloaded. If the chances are that the visitor will spend more time on a page, it makes sense to opt-in for displaying more than one ad at one page load. I’ve done this in the past using iframes, but hey, it’s 21st century (the last time I checked) and we have AJAX!

Yahoo! Research ~ Buzz Game

Getting into stock Market ? Try this first. Put your money where your mouth is by buying stock in the technologies you believe will be popular and selling stock in the technologies you think will flop. Yahoo!’s Tech Buzz Game is a fantasy prediction market for technology. Your goal as a player is to predict how popular various technologies will be in the future. Popularity or buzz is measured by Yahoo! Search frequency over time. Predictions are made by buying virtual stock in technologies you think are about to boom, and selling when substance doesn’t match the hype.

It is Similar to alexadex, where players compete for fame and glory by buying and selling shares in sites on the world wide web. The price of a share is set at the site’s daily reach per million, according to alexa.com. You get $10,000 just for signing up, so get started!

Markets in the Tech Buzz Game reflect a mix of companies, products, and technologies on O’Reilly’s radar. Follow the Tech Buzz Game for a view into community sentiment about the future of technology.
Example

  • You’re bullish on podcasting; you buy shares of PODCAST stock
  • Britney announces her next single will be delivered exclusively via podcast
  • Curious tweens everywhere flood Yahoo! with searches about podcasting
  • Your shares skyrocket; you make a bundle

AJAX-S - Make slideshows with Ajax

I recently stumbled upon Ajax-S, which is a short for AJAX-Slides. AJAX-S uses an XML format for the actual data which is being presented and XSLT to transform it into it’s final presentational form in order to provide strict separation of content and presentation. Now the best part is, it is available for free download and hence will be helpful for the developer minds.

The idea came to me because I wanted a lightweight slideshow based on HTML, CSS and JavaScript, but I also wanted to separate the data of each page from the actual code that presents it. Therefore, I decided to move the data into an XML file and then use AJAX to retrieve it. The name AJAX-S is short for AJAX-Slides (or Asynchronous JavaScript and XML Slides, if you want to).

After the recent release it supports incremental rendering, non-JavaScript users and also offers a printable version and fixed many other bugs. :)

Web 2.0 Validator : Is your website web2 enough ?

Recently I stumbled upon this new website, Web 2.0 Validator. It claims to validate a website for its web2ness ,

This looks for usage of prototype.js in your website which is a common file used by web 2.0-ers. We want to make this easy but if you don’t understand how this works, you have no business controlling the fate of the internet.

Sr-Ultimate ranked a 14 out of 43 . But few things bug me…

Attempts to be XHTML Strict ? No As per w3.org sr-ultimate.com validates as XHTML 1.0.

Has favicon ? No I do have a favicon !

And
Appears to have Adsense ? Yes! : O common ! Whats so technical or new in using adsense !

Now talk in Gmail : GmailChat

As posted yesterday, Now you can talk in Gmail, On the mailbox the part I liked most was the “option to chat” box comes when you hover of the name in “contants” or the mail of a person. It works just as running Gtalk inside browser.
The chat window can either be poped out for a seperate view or can be continued inside the same window. :)

  1. Chat - Send instant messages from directly within Gmail. When you go to your inbox, you’ll be online.
  2. Status - See when others are online and let them know when you’re online, away, busy, tired, whatever.
  3. History - Chats can be just like emails. Save them, search for them–never lose important chats again.

Gmail Chat : Coming Up

I Was browsing through my mails and noticed this, Google is starting up Gmail Chat, it might give a tough time for web 2.0 company’s like meebo, upcoming emessenger etc.

Google Chat
Your Google Talk chat history can be automatically saved right here in your Gmail account. Now chat with your friends from directly within Gmail, Pop-out Chats : Give chat session its own window.

Nytimes report

the search-engine giant, is expected on Tuesday to disclose that it will join its instant-messaging service with its popular Gmail program, the latest indication that the company has set its sights on the broader communications industry.

The new program, called Gmail Chat, will let Gmail users exchange text messages with others without having to log onto a separate chat program, making instant messaging simpler and more integrated with the e-mail program.

From anywhere in Gmail, the user can see who is available to chat. The program will also allow users to store instant-message conversations.

There’s more…

  • Add contacts and invite your friends to chat from Quick Contacts
  • See when your friends are online
  • Set your status to busy, sleepy, angry or whatever. Even sneezy.
  • Get Google Talk to make free voice calls too. It’s completely synchronized with Quick Contacts
  • Go off the record when you’re chatting so nothing gets saved to anyone’s Gmail account
