Now talk in Gmail : GmailChat
As posted yesterday, Now you can talk in Gmail, On the mailbox the part I liked most was the “option to chat” box comes when you hover of the name in “contants” or the mail of a person. It works just as running Gtalk inside browser.
The chat window can either be poped out for a seperate view or can be continued inside the same window. :)
- Chat - Send instant messages from directly within Gmail. When you go to your inbox, you’ll be online.
- Status - See when others are online and let them know when you’re online, away, busy, tired, whatever.
- History - Chats can be just like emails. Save them, search for them–never lose important chats again.

Useful and convenient, however until Google allows Talk to “talk” to AOL, MSN, Yahoo etc. it will have limited functionality.

how does it work though– i understand using ajax to call the server and do something with the response… but how does this become event driven by an incoming message?
is it constantly looping constantly calling the server looking to see if anyone wrote? wouldn’t that bog down the page a lot?
how does it work?
